White Water Rafting in Maine
Maine white water rafting ranges from tranquil floats down mellow rivers to nail-biting, raucous adventures on Class V rivers. Three rivers in particular stand out: the Dead River, which boasts more continuous white water than any other river in the east; the Kennebec River, famous for its remote wilderness setting; and the Penobscot River, which drops an incredible 70-feet per mile as it zips through Ripogenus Gorge.

Northern Outdoors Maine White Water Rafting
In 1976, Northern Outdoors became the first outfitter to run commercial rafting trips on the Kennebec and Penobscot Rivers. During the rafting season, both one-day and multi-day white water rafting trips depart daily on the Dead, Kennebec and Penobscot Rivers. Northern Outdoors is known for their experienced staff (more than 100 years combined guiding experience in Maine) and the wide variety of adventure activities they offer year-round, including sea kayaking, fishing, rock climbing and snowmobiling tours. Their resort facilities are probably the best in the Northeast and include deluxe lakeside log cabins, riverside camping lots, hot tubs, tennis courts, a swimming pool and their own Kennebec River Brewery.

"I just wanted to write to tell you that I have never had so much enjoyment from a trip in my life. I traveled the Penobscot River with my boyfriend and have never been so impressed with the professionalism and expertise of a staff. I have told all my friends about this trip and how much I am looking forward to coming back next year... I wouldn’t think of going with another company."
- Julie Nickerson, Topsfield, MA
